HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
Ammolite is formed from the fossilized shells of ammonites, marine creatures that lived 70–75 million years ago. It was officially recognized as a gemstone in 1981 and is considered one of the few organic gemstones alongside amber and pearl. Indigenous peoples of North America regarded ammonite fossils as sacred, calling them “Buffalo Stone” and using them in rituals for luck and protection. Today, Ammolite is admired for its unique rainbow iridescence and its symbolism of transformation, prosperity, and ancient wisdom.
