Historical Overview
Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide mineral and one of the most important copper ores in the world. First described in 1725, its name comes from the Greek words chalkos (copper) and pyrites (strike fire). Often mistaken for pyrite due to its brassy appearance, Chalcopyrite is softer and more colorful when oxidized. In metaphysical traditions, it is considered a stone of abundance, transformation, and spiritual awakening. Treated specimens with vivid iridescence are popularly called “Peacock Ore,” though technically this name belongs to bornite. Chalcopyrite has long been valued for its ability to clear energy blockages, stimulate intuition, and connect with higher wisdom.
