HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite discovered in the Dominican Republic in 1916, but not widely recognized until the 1970s. Its name combines “Larissa” (after the discoverer’s daughter) and “mar” (Spanish for sea), reflecting its ocean-like appearance. Local legends connect Larimar to the lost city of Atlantis, and it is often called the “Atlantis Stone.” In metaphysical traditions, Larimar is considered a stone of peace, communication, and feminine energy, symbolizing the calming essence of the sea and sky.
