HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Rutile was first described in 1803 by A.G. Werner and named after the Latin word rutilus, meaning “red,” referencing the color of the earliest specimens. It is a major titanium ore and occurs in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Rutile often forms needle-like crystals that penetrate other minerals such as Quartz, Amethyst, and Hematite, creating highly sought-after specimens. Spiritually, Rutile is considered a stone of illumination, energy amplification, and transformation, symbolizing clarity and strength.
